The Talking Turtle is a classic fable about the importance of listening and thinking before speaking. The story goes like this:

Once upon a time, there was a turtle who talked too much. He would talk all day long, and he would never stop to listen to anyone else. This made the other animals very annoyed, but no one could get the turtle to stop talking.

One day, the turtle was talking to a wise old owl when he suddenly stopped mid-sentence. The owl looked at him and said, "Why have you stopped talking?"

"I have just realized that I have been talking too much," said the turtle.

"Well, it's about time," said the owl. "You talk too much, and you never stop to listen to anyone else. This is very rude and it makes the other animals very annoyed."

The turtle was ashamed to hear this, and he decided to change his ways. He started to listen more to what other animals had to say, and he only talked when he had something important to say.

The other animals were very happy with this change in the turtle's behavior. They no longer had to listen to his constant chatter, and they could finally enjoy his company.

The turtle learned a valuable lesson that day. He learned that it is important to listen to others and to think before speaking. He also learned that talking too much can be very rude and annoying.

The moral of the story is that we should all try to be good listeners. We should listen to what other people have to say, and we should only talk when we have something important to say.

Questions for discussion

  • What did the wise old owl tell the turtle about his talking?
  • How did the turtle change his behavior after talking to the owl?
  • What is the moral of the story?
