Karen Robiscoe: I'm interested in the relationship between humans and technology. I think technology is a tool that can be used for good or for evil, and I'm interested in exploring that tension in my work.
I often use everyday objects in my work. I like to take something that is familiar and make it strange. I want to create a sense of the uncanny, where the viewer is not sure what they are looking at.
So Five Minutes Ago: What are some of your influences?
Karen Robiscoe: I'm influenced by a wide range of things, including science fiction, horror, and surrealism. I'm also interested in the work of other artists who explore the relationship between humans and technology, such as Stelarc and Chris Burden.
So Five Minutes Ago: What do you think the future of art is?
Karen Robiscoe: I think the future of art is very open. There are so many new technologies that are emerging, and I'm excited to see how artists will use them to create new and innovative work.
I also think that the role of the artist is changing. In the past, artists were seen as the creators of beautiful objects. Today, artists are more likely to be seen as facilitators or collaborators. I think this is a positive change, as it allows artists to work with others to create a more just and equitable world.
So Five Minutes Ago: What are you working on now?
Karen Robiscoe: I'm currently working on a new series of sculptures that explore the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. I'm interested in how AI is changing the way we think about ourselves and our place in the world.
I'm also working on a new performance piece that will explore the role of the artist in the 21st century. I'm interested in how artists can use their work to make a difference in the world.
So Five Minutes Ago: Thank you for your time.
Karen Robiscoe: Thank you for having me.
